What jobs in aviation can I still get without a college degree?

I don't think I'll attend college, but would still like to have a good job in aviation. What specific jobs do you recommend I look into that would not require me to have a college degree? #aviation #airline-industry

Hi Austin,

There are several options for you if you are looking to start a career in aviation without a college degree. Most airlines or handling companies (companies contracted to handle various operational functions for the airline) offer entry level positions (reservation agent/check in agent/ramp agent/baggage handler/cargo agent etc.) with a minimum requirement of a high school diploma.

I myself started in aviation as a part time check in agent and did not think I would complete my college degree due to various personal hardships.
However, I kept at it and even if it was not the conventional method I finally got it. I feel that the education helped me to further my aspirations and am glad that I did not give it up.

I would encourage you not give up on going to college just yet and keep that option open, even if you think you will not attend right now.

Good luck!

If becoming a pilot interests you, it is not a job which requires a college degree. But it does involve extensive training.
The only airlines, in the US, which require a degree are major airlines. You can fly cargo, regional, or corporate without a degree.

A lot of front-line jobs such as gate agents and ramp agents dot require college degrees. However, those jobs are entirely based on seniority. It is possible to make a decent living with those positions but I'd urge you to learn a trade such as IT skills or go to an aircraft mechanic school. A lot of trades that are applicable in the airline industry can also be learned in the military, which is actually where my dad learned the job he does now and has worked at various airlines and large contractors for almost 40 years.
