LPN or LVN is done at a vocational school or technical school and it can be done at a Community College and you will get a ASN that is usually a year to year and a half. I went to a Vocational program in my high school and it was 18 mos but that was almost 30 years ago. With the RN depending on whether you go to a Diploma school forb 2 years or a 4 year college, you could graduate with a AAS or ASN or a BSN. I would recommend whichever route you take, get your BSN it makes you more marketable.

Misty’s Answer

Sheila this is a great question.

The degree you would need for nursing would depend on what kind of nursing you wanted to get into. For example, if you wanted to go into LPN nursing, you would have to complete the program at say a technical college in a 2 year program. If you wanted to go for RN you would have to take that education a little further and if you were looking into something such as nurse practitioner, you would need alot more than just a two year degree and passing NCLEX for license. Look into the different fields of nursing to see exactly what you want to do. Then you will be able to see a specific time frame and degree and licensure needs for each one.

Good Luck and hope this helps.
