Drew’s Answer

Horizon,

I work in a sales role for a software company, and I have enjoyed working in sales for my entire professional career. I love the competitiveness of my role, and enjoy collaborating with my team to help our numbers increase.

That being said, the most challenging part of my day is the uncontrollables. There are always going to be things every day that you cannot factor in, such as traffic or the willingness of a client to conversate. My advice would be to focus on things you can control and keep a positive attitude no matter what is tossed your way, and that will help you avoid the challenges brought on by outside influences.

Matthew’s Answer

The most difficult thing about my job is the necessity to stay knowledgable with the current offerings.

In the tech industry, especially the cloud aspect, there is literally something new coming out every day. You truly can never stop learning, and that is one of my favorite things about the tech industry.

To stay up to date on new material, I follow many relevant accounts on LinkedIn like AWS, Azure and GCP so I can be aware when new offerings or news comes out. Another way to stay ahead of the game is by actively teaching yourself the material, but then applying it to use cases.

It is important to do this so that you can better identify which solutions/services your company can offer to the customer's pain point.

Sage is power.

Matthew recommends the following next steps:

Follow the top companies relevant to your industry on linkedin
Make sure to spend at least 30 minutes a day learning something new
Try explaining what you've learned to someone at the end of every day - this helps the knowledge stick in your brain

Melisa’s Answer

Horizon,

Thanks for asking your question. I’m sure others have the same question as you.

I’m thankful to have a career that I love, helping people serve as volunteers and make positive changes in our world. For me, the biggest challenge is balancing multiple requests and projects at the same time and prioritizing. It is often tough to do when you have several large projects going on at one time or that have due dates that are close to each other.

Here’s some tips I find helpful and feel are just valuable to adopt in life, no matter what your career interest is.

1.    Be reliable. Show up to work, deliver on your commitments and even go above and beyond to deliver results in your work. If you show up to work on time, deliver projects when they are do and manage your time well, balancing multiple requests may become a little easier over time.

2.    Be a strong collaborator. Contribute to your team and the company you represent. If you are a good “team player” to others, when you need support your team will in turn support you as well.

3.    Grow your connections. Increase your network of positive people. Surround yourself with others who also want to succeed and help you succeed as well.

4.    Be a life-long learner. Continue to look for new ways to increase your education and improve your skills in your field. Never stop learning and reach out to others for help and feedback.

Best wishes in your future goals!

Melisa recommends the following next steps:

Seek a mentor or advocate in your field who can help guide you.
Be a lifelong learner. Find ways to complete and continue your education so you keep finding new skills to help you achieve what you want to do in life.
