How often do the employees get evaluated? what benefits does the company offer?what are the daily duties on the job?

#career #security I am 18 years old, I was born in Yap. I am currently enrolled in Job Corps so I can advance in my career. I am passionate about the Security work force. I want to be able to monitor and maintain properties to keep people and companies safe.

Thank you comment icon This depends on who you work for. Some companies will give you a review at regular intervals. Some other companies do nothing. The benefits also vary with each company. Harold Evans

Hi Tony. First, I have to tell you, one of the benefits of being part of careervillage.org is that you learn something new every day. I have never heard of Yap until I saw your post so I looked Yap up and was happy to learn something new about our amazing world.

In regard to your question, I think it is admirable that you want to keep people safe. Benefits will vary between companies, but the larger the company, the better the benefits which typically include health insurance and retirement benefits like 401K matching. The latter is typically what you will find in US companies. My recommendation to you is first, to pursue opportunities with companies that do offer at least health insurance benefits. If you or your wife and kids were to get sick, it's important to have the safety net of health insurance. You should also start saving money as soon as you can. Though you are young, you will one day want to "retire". Retirement means different things to different people, but, God willing, you will be older one day and you will want to be able to take it a little easier in your older years. I'm 54 now and trust me, you will not want to have to keep pushing so hard one day. Also, you won't want your children to have to take care of you if you can avoid it, so start putting some money away as soon as you can, ok? ...even if it's just a a little bit a week or month.

Lastly, if you have the least bit inclination toward computers and the like, Cybersecurity is another realm of security that you should consider. People's personal assets are readily accessible via the internet, in the cyber sphere. Generally speaking, you can make a better income in this area of security than you can in the area securing property.

All the best to you.

Hello! We have monthly evaluations, quarterly evaluations, and yearly evaluations. We get annual raises after our yearly evaluation. The company that I work for has a 401(k) that they match, health insurance, life insurance, and after a year, they'll help you pay for your schooling if you're going to school.

Tony- the security profession is very broad, including: physical security, cyber security, investigations, loss prevention and much more. Employees usually are formally evaluated during mid and year end reviews but the informal evaluation is daily. Always strive to do your very best every day as you never know who may be paying attention and notice your skills and drive, possibly leading to job growth opportunities and promotions. Benefits vary by company but usually include paid vacations (2 to 3 wks to start), tuition reimbursement for college work, health benefits and some type of long term incentive (bonus or pension or other long term compensation). Best of luck.

Hi Tony first off I think going into the security world is an admirable thing. I have been in the security/law enforcement world for the past 17 years and love every minute of it. To answer your questions, each company is different in how they have their evaluation system set up as well as there benefits and promotion system. For example, one of the company's that I previously was a supervisor for only gave us an annual review that was done between the months February and April. However, where I work now we have it broken down differently. To begin with your first 15 days your on whats called the field training program where you are assigned to a Field Training Officer which is a senior officer specifically training in teaching new people how to do their job. Each day for those 15 days you are evaluated on your work performance and at the end of the night the evaluation is discussed between you and your Field Training Officer. Each week you will also have a weekly report that is filled out by your FTO and discussed between you, your trainer, and one of the administrators. At the end of the training period there is one final review you are given and it is to determine whether or not you passed your training phases. Once passed you are then given a performance review at your six month anniversary, one year anniversary where you are told whether or not you passed your probation period, and then annually in the month of your birthday. Hope this helps.
