Dear Kaelin, Congrats on your choice of careers! I have been a neonatal nurse for many years and love the specialty. Of course, you will need to be an RN first- so choose a good college to attend- Most people will suggest you get your BSN first before taking your RN licensure exam. Then, you will need to start out on a unit- some places suggest you get some nursing experience before you move right into the neonatal intensive care, other units will hire new grads.... so that just depends. Then, after some experience in the field, you can sit for the certification exam. Check out this site: http://www.nccwebsite.org/certification/Exam-detail.aspx?eid=8 to find out more about a certification through the National Certification Corporation. Best of luck!
