Would you recommend a career in Radiology?

I’m considering going into medicine, but I don’t know what specialty is right for me. I would like a career where I can tackle important problems and make people’s lives better. What do you guys think? Would this be the right specialty? I’m trying to figure out which one is right for me. #medicine #healthcare #career #career-choice #doctor

Estelle’s Answer

I agree with Rachel. Radiology does not involve as much direct patient interaction unless you are an interventional radiologist. The field of radiology is super interesting and changing as technology improves. If you enjoy studying anatomy and have really good 3 dimensional analysis skills, radiology might be perfect for you>

Mariana’s Answer

I work in the radiology field and I love it. I’ve been a radiological technologist for over 14 years. While I’m not a doctor, I work very closely with the radiologists and can say that they make a difference everyday. The radiology department is very important, we are the eyes of medicine. You can’t make a diagnosis without an X-ray, CT, US or MRI. Everything starts with us.

Richard’s Answer

Yes! I am an interventional radiologist and have found it to be a satisfying career. There's always plenty of work to do as medical imaging improves and more diagnostic tests are ordered. Also, there are a variety of procedures to master and there are always new procedures or new techniques to learn.

Rachel’s Answer

Radiology does not involve much patient interaction unless you are an interventional radiologist. Even then, the radiologist sees the patient for the procedure with minimal followup. If you like the idea of reading films and being very productive without much patient contact, this could be a great field.
