Doc’s Answer

Hi Kevin,

I would say that happiness is a State of Mind, "Happiness comes from choosing to be happy with whatever you do."

Ultimately, being happy with what you have is a matter of focusing on the good things in your life, while it's impossible to control everything that happens to you, you can control your internal thought processes by the actions you take. My suggestion is to let go of unrealistic burdens and expectations and think about all the great moments and do your best to make yourself feel good in the here and now. Each milestone you surpass on the way to your goal, feel great when you accomplish it and savor the happiness.

Kevin it looks likes you've got a good handle on what brings you longer-term happiness, take a moment to think about your gifts you already have that make you happiest.

√ Loves a Challenge
√ Passionate Leader

Suzanne’s Answer

Hi Kevin,

Are you asking as a political theorist? A philosopher? A Priest/Rabbi/Buddhist? A neurobiologist? Are you asking as an individual or thinking of humanity in general?

You have just asked an ancient question and best and most brilliant minds have been debating for millenia.

There are wonderful texts out there. (I don't think my personal opinion on what constitutes happiness for me would be of benefit to you, unless you agree that happiness=dogs).

Here are a few references for you to ponder as you delve into this mystery:

Michelle’s Answer

This is such a wonderful question and the answer lies within you as you learn new things every day. Happiness is such a positive emotion. It brings both a smile to your face and your heart . Some people say that happiness is pure contentment, satisfaction with who you are and your world around you.

It is a comforting emotion. It is one of many feelings and states that we all experience based on our perception of life. That is why the feeling is so individualized. Different elements in life will cause you to be happy at different times in your life. I believe that on some spiritual level, happiness connects you with the wonderful things in life and it is up to you to define "wonderful" .

There is a song from a Broadway musical which asks the same question. I would like for you to listen to this tune and see what you think . Thanks for asking such a powerful and important question and may your personal discovery be an exciting one !

Cameron’s Answer

Someone once told me something regarding happiness that always stuck with me. We think of happiness as a destination or a goal we have to achieve; in reality, happiness is an emotion just like hunger or having a headache. We can experience happiness multiple times throughout the day, much like we are hungry at different points throughout the day.
I think happiness is a short or long term state of being content or joyful. It is triggered by a positive event occurring.

Aicha’s Answer

Hi! I would say obviously this answer will vary depending on the person, but I think happiness is a feeling or emotion that comes when you truly enjoy something or someone. It may be seen when you are doing something that you are passionate about or if you are around a person who makes you feel happy inside. Happiness for me personally is just seeing God work in my life and change my heart. This allows me to also help others and not just focus on myself. Giving back to others gives me joy and happiness!

I really liked this question and i think i could go on and on about it, but i won't. Thanks for allowing me share my thoughts on this!

Riley’s Answer

I would say happiness is an outlook on life. I believe that life is really what you make it, and maintaining a positive attitude is the best way to remain happy and satisfied with your life no matter what is going on. While happiness should come from within, it is also important to surround yourself with people and things that you love. Try to be friends with only people who bring out the best in you, instead of bringing drama or negativity to your life.

Riley recommends the following next steps:

Every morning when you wake up, write down 3 things that you are grateful for that day.
