Doc’s Answer

Over the course of the next 20 years, I would expect technology to continue to make major advancements Jessica.

Technology is constantly advancing at a breakneck pace. Things that mystified us 20 years ago seem commonplace and mundane by today's standards. It follows, then, that to the people of 2040 (assuming, of course, that the Zombie Apocalypse doesn't destroy human civilization), the things they take for granted everyday would be downright magical to us. Some of the biggest advancements in technology over the next two decades will be with exist technology, we're just waiting for the right scientist or entrepreneur to come along and change the world. Technologies like...

We've been promised robots, both the helpful and murderous kinds, for the better part of the last century. For the most part, progress has been slow, but that's mostly because the technology required to build these SYBORG miracles has lagged somewhat. In the next two decades, the fields of artificial intelligence and mechanical engineering will improve considerably and, slowly but surely, our robot servants will finally become a reality. However, the potential is undeniable, and most will have to come to terms that robotics will play a major role in our future. We might have to welcome the dawn of the age of robots and accept their existence. And it’s all due to their ever-increasing efficiency, precision, and ability to mimic certain human functions. Robotics will become a solution that will increase productivity and costs, even though it will endanger the jobs of hundreds of thousands of people. It’s a reality we will have to accept.

Nano-Robotics are still largely in the research and development phase. Given its absolute precision and tremendous potential, nanotechnology will be one of the most significant technologies that will change the world for the better. Numerous industries will be affected, including computing, engineering, medicine, and several others. In a matter of decades, the technology will be perfected and reach a point of becoming an absolute necessity. Issues such as neurosurgery and gene therapy, for example, will be revolutionized, and the population will reap the benefits.

If history has taught us anything, it is that predicting the future will forever remain an art form as opposed to a precise science. The world is evolving rapidly and constantly, with trends coming and going in a matter of years. Within the last few decades, technology has taken the lead and become the fastest growing industry in the world. In fact, it has advanced more in the past couple of decades than it has in centuries before, and there is no sign of it slowing down.

That has made it unpredictable and exciting at the same time. And while we cannot know where it’s going and what innovating ideas brilliants minds will come up with, we can analyze current data and existing technologies. Among them are a few that will take root and continue shaping the future of our world.

Lets talk again in 2120. 8-)

Dear Jessica: One of the biggest challenge I believe will be to developing continuations learning mindset. While it is obvious even today - how do you find motivation to keep learning and contributing in the fast evolving field of yours - may it be technology or anything else, which will surely disrupted by it. Resiliency of your mind during disruptions will be more crucial than anything else.

Today's CoVID world is a great example (an extreme one for sure) of massive and fast disruptions that could come in future. At macro level you will need to ensure you lead with optimism, have perseverance, possess open/leaner's mind and have ability to move on to the new normal. With this you will be able to deal with most if not all challenges.

Good luck Jessica.

Blake’s Answer

I believe that the next generation will struggle with in person communication. With the rate that technology is advancing, humans have to actually interact and communicate via face to face less and less. I think that there will be difficulty with this if we don't begin to set aside our phones, tablets, etc. and communicate with each other.

Neha’s Answer

I believe Interpersonal Skills are going to be a weakness in the next generation. We spend an awful amount of time behind a screen. Try to talk with strangers! Spark a conversation and you might learn something!
