Are the requirements for becoming a speech pathologist the same in every state?

I am planning to study speech pathology, and I know you need to have a master's degree in most states in order to practice. I am wondering if that is the case for all states or if some require additional education or a test to become certified to practice. #speech-pathology #audiologist

Terri’s Answer

Beyond the masters degree and your ASHA Certification, there are no other educational requirements, but do check with the individual states you want to practice in as you do have to secure a license to practice in those states.

T.’s Answer

In order to obtain your Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA, you are required to pass the NESPA or SLP Praxis exam following completion of your Masters degree.

In addition to the Masters degree and Praxis exam, most states have a state license that they require for you obtain in order to practice in that state. Some states (such as Texas or Maryland) may require you to complete a jurisprudence exam, while other states may only need proof of your ASHA CCC's certification and a processing fee. Each state is different and you want to google the Speech and Hearing Board for your state for further detailed instructions.
