Is 2d animation dieing

I want to be a 2d animator and recently I have been seeing less and less of it (at least in the big name cpmpanies) and I was wondering if I still have a chance to pursue it #career-counseling #art #artist #animation #animator

No, this isn't completely true. 2D animation is very much alive and well, but just not in the way we think… Mainstream theatre releases have disappeared since the Princess and the Frog in 2009, and Disney favored 3D films with Tangled and Frozen becoming huge hits.

Hi Sunrise,
Animation is going to be one of the biggest career of the century.
Search the website AUTODESK and learn about their animation tool in Media & Entertainment industry.
Look for a local institute and do a one year course, work as a intern and learn the business side of it and I am 100% sure you will land in your dream job role and inspire others.

2D animation will always have a place of its own, if you look at any of the successful games or movies the ones that have done well are always the ones that have compelling stories or characters . 2d or 3d is just a medium to tell the story and each one will have its unique qualities always....so 2d will be here to stay!

2D animation will likely be around for a long time, probably forever. It's true that most animation in movies and TV is done in 3D now but that doesn't mean that 2D has gone away. One thing to think about too is... video games! There are hundreds of games, especially on mobile devices, that rely on 2D animation and graphics. It sounds like you're thinking about 2D animation in TV or movies but also consider that if you develop skills in 2D animation, you may also be able to work on video game content.

Absolutely not Sunrise in fact animation both 2D and 3D is one of the hottest forms right now during the pandemic. When movie shoots were shut down because this pandemic animated movies were still going on and being made, that being because it's easier to do everything at home. You absolutely still have a chance to pursue. If it's something you want to pursue stay at it and learn everything you can. Wishing you the best of luck

I think there is still a need and demand for animation of all kinds. I have been at Disney for over 30 years and honestly the most important elements to focus on is "The Story" and then identify the best medium to tell the story. If you do research and check out "Mr Bill" from archives of Saturday Night Live, that was not fancy 3-d animation but extremely popular!
