I know you received several responses and obviously there are several college packing lists online. My only suggestion to add is to PACK LESS! I was a resident assistant for four years at my University and year after year so many freshmen overpack. They end up sending items home or having to bring them home during fall break. You can always buy items or additional storage after you figure out what you actually need or want. For example, don't buy a ton of plastic draws right away. Maybe just buy one and see if there is a need for more. Good luck!

Hi Sabrina

This is clearly a concern not to be ignore. I am glad that you have posted your concern on CareerVillage.org.

Moving to a dorm can be exciting and worrisome. I am sure you are ready for this adventure. As for the readiness, you can never be too prepared for such a change.
Keep in mind that most dorms facilitates with most essentials, at the same time you must realize that you can't take everything with you.

There is an interesting article on WikiHow that should cover the basics and more. I hope this helpful.

For dorm life just pack the essentials like: clothes, cell charger, laptop and any reading material you like, at least for your first year. Avoid taking anything of high value that you wouldn't want to risk loosing. Once you hit your second year and you've gotten used to dorm life, and gotten to know dorm roommates, you can then start to bring a few personal things you'd like to have nearby. Be mindful of the space you have to work with in the dorms, you want to avoid having your space become overcluttered. Something simple that goes a long way to weekly cleaning, take one day off the week to clean the area and keep your room well organized. You'd be amazed how often students just let their rooms stay a mess for weeks on end.

For life on campus, I would suggest having:

-Healthy snacks that are readily available; it's easier to have a flexible life when you have a flexible eating schedule.
-Pack of playing cards. So many uses. Solitaire. Party games. Long competitive games between friends (I'd recommend the game Spades).
-Large container for water that'll make it easier to track water intake. It's not just for health nuts; it's a common need and the first thing I ask when people have body-related complaints.
-Small Multi-Purpose tools for all the random things you might need to fix on the fly during a random weekend or night.
-Flashlight
