Yasemin’s Answer

Hi Yazmine! There are different salaries based on the occupation in the healthcare field. For physicians the salary changes based on specialities as well. It usually ranges between 200,000 to 500,000 with plastic surgery and orthopedics paying high. The links below gives more details on salary in the healthcare field. Hope this helps!

Best of luck!

Cedric Castille-’s Answer

It all depends on what you want to do in healthcare. You can go to school in short term programs to become a technician, like a CNA, or a radiology tech, phlebotomy tech but those jobs don't pay as well as the ones that take longer to get degree's in such as Doctor's and Nurses. So it really depends on what you want to do and how much you want to make. Technicians make around $12-$15 per hour, Nurses are closer to $60,000 and up!

Donna’s Answer

Yasmine, I have a question of you. Is your desire to enter into healthcare money or the want to help people. This is a career you will be with for the majority of your life. So you need to weigh all the expectations and not just how much money you will make/ not make. As being happy in your choices far out weighs the money earned.

At 14 select a broad scope of health care. In this COVID environment it would probably be difficult to shadow doctors, nurses, specialist, but maybe you could try. What things do you like what don't you like. Are you good with blood, vomit and feces because some of the work you will do may involve those things.

Or maybe you are more suited toward radiology. Do you want to be in the thick of things in an emergency room or a specialist behind the scenes.

Rachele’s Answer

Hi Yazmine!

I just wanted to drop a note. The healthcare industry is broad and full of many unique career opportunities.

1. You can choose to take a patient facing or medical path which could include: Nursing, Pediatrician, Pathologist, Lab Tech, Doctor, Biological Research, Pharmacist, etc.

2. You can choose to take a business path which would include: Healthcare Administer (hospital system), Healthcare Insurance (Project Manager, Strategy Analyst, Process Improvement Manager, etc.), Public Health (Policy and Grant Writing, Non-profit Fundraising or Operations, etc.), Technology (Medical Equipment, Medical Records, Medical Systems or Platforms, etc).

2a. Bottom line with this path, the non-patient facing professional track has so many different avenues within different types of organizations. This path will require you to dig deeper into your personal passion.. such as “Do you want to be in marketing? Do you want to be in supply chain (Managing physical products)? Do you want to be in Healthcare Finance? You get my point!

Regardless, good luck with your pursuit! My best advice would be to continue to find resources like career village, reach out to professionals in the field you are interested in, find opportunities to shadow, read, etc. Remember, knowledge and ambition to learn = Success!
