Hi Shawnisa,
Here is a list of great art schools to check out!
School of Visual Arts (SVA), New York City
Pratt Institute, New York City
Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) Providence, Rhode Island
Rutgers (New Brunswick, NJ)
University of California (Los Angeles)
Yale University
Bard College (New York)
Maryland Institute College of Art (Baltimore, MD)
Virginia Commonwealth University (Richmond, VA)
Most of the schools on this list are ones with a particular emphasis in the two art disciplines you mentioned (ceramics and painting)!

Hi,
Pratt in Brooklyn is a great art school. I looked into them when I was applying to schools.
They offer so many classes in painting, ceramics , and in many other disciplines. They also offer classes in subjects other than art.
Take a look at them.

While there are many reputable Art Schools in the US, some students find a University Art Department provides exactly the experience they need. When I was teaching High School Art Classes, I would encourage student to look at public and private colleges with strong art programs as well as other useful departments. Since you live in the Southwest, I would encourage you to look at schools in adjoining states. For example, the University of Dallas (which is in Irving, Texas) has a well funded and remarkably progressive Art Department. There are other strong programs in Texas: SMU, UT Austin and more. Sometimes, being around engineering majors (or History Majors) is exactly what an aspiring artist needs.
