Martin’s Answer

Dear Srigayathri,

it depends on what you like.

The fact is, that if you like something, you are rather willing as well to learn about it more than about something you dislike.

Therefore it is very wise to choose something which you like and as well in regards of your preparation for future work something which can ensure you wealth.

Hope this helped bit.

Nir’s Answer

I think becoming a software engineer is relatively easy in terms of ratio of years studied to salary. I know many people who did not even study computer science in college but attended a bootcamp and were able to get high paying jobs they really love.

Brad’s Answer

I agree with Martin, with the addition of natural talent. Each of us have their special gifts and conversely things that we hate doing. In my case I didn't find my career until in my mid 20's. When I first worked with computers everything seemed to make sense and come to me easily. Sure, I had some misconceptions and made errors over the next 30+ years. But I knew early on that being a computer programmer was what I wanted to do. It took a few years to switch careers, even a time of unemployment and self-employment. But perseverance, giving classes and some free work to get me in front of those that could help me break into the industry.
Of course this COVID era is a bit different but I still agree that if you enjoy doing something (anything) and have a reasonable talent at it then you should cultivate that talent. Good Luck.
