Sheila’s Answer

Hi Mahi:

Training is the best way to start out in singing and dancing. I have two nieces (sisters) that are dancers. They started very young attending dancing school where they first learned ballet and progressed to tap, hip hop and lyrical as they got older. They continued dancing throughout their school years including college. The eldest niece was a choreographer while in college and her sister joined the dancing team at her university. They traveled a lot with their dance company as the company was often requested to perform on cruise ships and in arenas to name a few.

I have cousins that have beautiful voices where they often sang in the church choir and sometimes at family events. I suggest that you participate in a choir. Some restaurants have karaoke night. Perhaps you could participate in this event with your family. Also, you may want to sing in front of your family, record your singing and, play it back to see how you've done. I'm sure your family would be happy to provide you with constructive criticism and you could see how you're progressing along the way. . . . Best of luck to you!

Some singers and dancers start young, either by self-discovery or by their family's influence. List down your favorite singers/dancers, their songs and dances then listen to their music, grab the lyrics and sing along. Same for dancing, a lot of tutorials are already available in the internet so just move along.

If you find that passion in you to dance and/or sing enroll in a formal class. Usually, classes would have practicuum that would allow you to perform in an audience. It is nerve-wracking but it is also fun!

I would suggest you get lots of excellent training. Do not try and teach yourself-or be self taught.

Practice, practice, practice on a regular basis.

Join church choir and school band. Learn as much as you can from peers and instructors.

As you get better, and when you are ready, try an Open Mic night at a local restaurant (age appropriate).

Join a band and have fun and be safe!

Enjoy the journey!
Thank you comment icon I would suggest to get involved in outside dance teams to get you into dancing and doing what you really love Saphia
