[closed] In the office environment, how can someone avoid negative physical stress associated with being at a computer and laptop all day?

Hello,

My name is Aimee and I am a current business senior with an interest in administration and a major of management. I would love to learn about managing business and making relationships with others. So far my teachers in my academic college have not said much about learning to type or using a computer's software features. What is the best way to avoid being sore and having different types of stress on your body (eye strain, physical soreness and stress, wrinkles)? I would love to work at a desk, however, I do not wish to harm myself either. Are there techniques and methods established for the continuity of effectiveness and productivity? Are there ways to still be comfortable?

Thank you for sharing. #business-administration #office-administration

Hi Aimee,

I work in an office all day and I am on my laptop all day. But I manage to avoid stress as much as I possibly can here is a list of things you can do to avoid/reduce stress.

  1. Get up to stretch every 30mins-Give yourself a short break 2-5mins. Get up go to the bathroom, get a drink, look outside the window, go visit a fellow co workers office/cubical and have a short chat, etc. Just make sure you aren't looking at your computer/cell phone screen. Unplug yourself for a short period of time.

  2. Stay hydrated and make sure you had a proper breakfast/lunch. Also feel free to snack throughout the day (because who doesn't like snacks? :D ) Giving your body the proper nutrients definitely helps. Eat healthy if possible it makes all the difference.

  3. Get a stress ball- it works wonders! They don't call it a stress ball for nothing!

  4. Listen to good music. I don't know if this will impact you as much as it does me but a lot of my stress goes away when I have my headphones in and I'm listening to my favorite songs. They say "music calms the soul" right and I tend to agree with that.

I hope these tips help you and I wish you the best of luck. Feel free to reach out in the comment if you have any further questions!

Hi Aimee,

I have seen some recommend sitting on a Swiss ball and more recently the standing chairs are gaining popularity. I my own experience getting up from your desk frequently and walk around helps a great deal but even more important is posture and exercise. I found that it is very important to focus on relaxing behind your desk. We tend to tense up especially under stress and that really messes you up. I also realized that I need to compensate for sitting down with sufficient exercise to ensure my body and especially my core stay strong. Hope this helps.
