[closed] How do popular business managing leaders handle the pressure of the spotlight being on them?

Hello,

My name is Aimee and I am a business senior at Concordia University with a concentration of administration and a major of management. I would like to take the opportunity to ask how leaders who go to help people handle the pressure of people usually being the go-to person for help with tasks, responsibilities, and projects. Leaders naturally want to help, but I also believe that they have to have a system to handle all of the tasks and people along with it. Personally, I am an introvert who is trying to become more people friendly. In addition, do leaders have exceptional time management skills?

Thank you for your input,

Ayan’s Answer

Manage Yourself.
“You must manage yourself before you can lead someone else” . This includes managing through fear, managing your time well, and talking “to each other,” rather than “about each other.”

Walk Your Talk.
One way of “walking your talk” is “modeling healthy ways of living for everyone in the organization.”
“Pressure is part of the leadership package and coping with the pressures of leadership are part of the leader’s overall wellness.”

Prevent Stress.
While preventing stress altogether isn’t necessarily possible, planning ahead, anticipating the unexpected, and building in time for non-work related activities like exercising and sightseeing while traveling helps balance a stressful schedule.

Delegate Work.
As a leader, there may be the temptation to do as many things as you can yourself. While that might give you more control, it does little to empower your staff.

Be Present.
Being in the present moment is easier said than done for busy leaders. This includes not thinking about the next meeting when talking with a team member, not planning tomorrow’s schedule in your mind when having coffee with a friend, and not checking your e-mail when enjoying time with your family.

Keep it Simple.
The ability to boil things down, to just work on things that really count, to think through the basics.
