In what situation in your life did you want to become a Police officer?

In many public areas in the US, some areas have crime everywhere but it isn't an easy decision in your life to commit to protect the public. Many people may have an opinion to why they joined. For example, personal experience that had someone become a police officer , a way to give back to the public/community, and or wanting to serve the public to protect them. These different ideas that I have kind of defines in why I want to join the police force in where I want to protect and support those in the community that need help. #police #law-enforcement

I am not a police officer, I have a son in criminal law and a daughter who is a staff sgt in the Army. So with that she thought about being a police officer or peace officer, and her friend did ride alongs and join a program they have in Ca in high school for graduating students whom are interested in police, armed forces, sheriff, highway patrol get your degree in Criminal Justice its only two years they offer the police officer program at the colleges in Ca they have one college called Golden West Community college. That paticular college has the police program there. AND you can get a great tution reimbursment, if you join a force, also they have a bogg grant for that as well it will be paid for. I do think they have other help too you will need to call a few colleges that offer the program . High demand for officers. If you take criminal justice you have many many choices of jobs to choose from when you graduate. My daughter knew in her Senior year. She is now going to be an officer in the Military and has been gone for eight years, married, no children, a big nice home and is very happy. I am sure you will do the same stick with it good luck.

Thank you comment icon Thank you for the information I'll keep that in mind when I searching for more schools. Eric

Douglas’s Answer

Hello Eric,

I've been working in law enforcement for my entire adult life (I'm 51 years old) and I honestly cannot ever remember a time that I did not have a real interest in becoming a police officer. My mother could confirm this as she remembers law enforcement being the only job I ever talked about as a child. I remember being in the 5th grade and having "Officer Friendly" visit my school and talk to us. This was a program in the early-mid 1970s that eventually became the DARE program. I remember to this day how impressed I was that a police officer was taking time to talk to a group of kids and that his job seemed like something I'd really enjoy doing. It impressed me so much that the following year I joined the school "Safety Patrol" and embarked on life's work.

Aside from that, I honestly enjoy serving others. I volunteer a great deal of my time at and through my church, I was a Cub Scout leader for about 8 years and still help the Boy Scouts program when I can.

A deep and genuine desire to actually serve others and to try to make a real difference in the place you live/work is the hallmark of the person I'm hoping will join me in my profession.

Stay safe!
