Do I have to decide between Pre-Med and Pre-Vet or is there some way I can do both?

Hi! My name is Natalie and I am a high school senior from California. I have been an animal lover my whole life and am proud to say I want to become a veterinarian. Unfortunately, I have though about the recent veterinarian suicides, and I am now reluctant to enter the animal science field. I have also always been interested in the surgical and anesthesiology part of medicine. I know that it will not have that great of a negative impact on my mentality, but I am not as excited about it as I am about veterinary science. I would like to try to begin my veterinary career but I would also like to have a back up just incase it is not for me. What can I do? #medicine #veterinary #anesthesiology

In most cases pre-med and pre-vet programs at colleges are designed to meet the prerequisites for postgraduate professional programs like med school or vet school, so you don't really have to choose. However, you should look at the admission requirements for the specific med school or vet school you would be interested in so that you make sure the program will meet those requirements.
