Moses’s Answer

There are many negative things I could say unfortunately, but on the other hand there are also many positive things you can look forward too.

Some big ones being the great friends you'll make along your career, the financial ,medical, and physical benefits you get, as well as a lot of introspective development as person. I know I'm not just speaking for myself when I say the military has made me go through difficult situations I wouldn't otherwise have gone through, and came out stronger from them, both mentally and physically.

There will be countless instances where you will be pushed to your limits whether it be because you're overworked or because of the training, yet you will come out better than before. This is one of the amazing things you can look forward too.

Desiree’s Answer

It really depends on what your goal is overall. Whether you want to make it a career or just use it for schooling. It definitely varies from person to person how much or how little you get out of it. But expect to (at first) do lots of schooling and learning your job, possibly traveling and deployments, and making lifelong friends that you can turn to for anything.
Thank you comment icon Thank you very much for the response I am thinking about making it a career although I am not 100 percent sure. anijyah

Each branch of service is different. I come from 5 generations of military service with some family members serving in more than one branch. What branch are you considering?

James’s Answer

This depends on the branch. There are some things that are universal across all branches, though. You have hands on experience when you join the military. No need to worry about a job interview or whether or not your resume will be enough. You get to jump straight in. The other thing I will mention is education. You have a G.I. Bill to give you free education. You can also take classes while you are in that are fully funded. This gives you a huge advantage over the civilian world and all the student loans.

Can you provide some more information? Have you already signed your contract? Did you pick your profession? Service? The most important thing you should look forward to going into the military is: 1. You made a decision. A lot of younger adults (I'm assuming you are out of high school or early 20s) can't make a decision and in my opinion, waste some of the best years of their lives. I was in the military for almost 25 years. I thought I was only going to do 6 years...I loved it. 2. You're on you way to getting an on the job education. No matter what field you are in in the military, you will come out ahead of your peers better for it. 3. You are on your way to earning highly valuable post-military education. For many schools in America, you can earn a degree or another certification of your choosing, from welding to learning to fly and airplane. I heard a friend of mine say he went to study with a chef in Italy at a cooking school. Work hard, do what you're told and stay positive - you can really put you life on a great trajectory with military service.
