Nate’s Answer

Hello Dyjahnae!

Whenever I create a to-do list I have a process that I will talk you through. The first thing that I do when creating a to-do list is make sure that I have time and a quiet place to really think about what needs to be done and what I want to achieve. Once I have a quiet place to focus and a place to make my to-do list whether that be on my phone or on paper I will start actually making the list. The second thing I do is list everything and anything I can think of that I need to achieve or want to achieve. At this point in the process I do not try to prioritize the things on my list I just write down everything I can think of. I usually take a break and walk away from the list for 5-10min to given my brain a break. Then when I come back to the list add anything else I can think of. The next step is to assign a priority to the things on my list from high to low. If something needs to be done sooner than it should be a high priority. If something on the list is just a want then it is a low priority. Once you have done all of that your list is complete. As you think of new things just add them and add a priority to them. I strive to do at least one thing on my list a week, even if it is something super small.

Kenny’s Answer

Hey Dyjahnae,

I'd start by taking a look at Todoist - https://todoist.com - which is a free to-do list app that I personally use. It is accessible on a browser and as an app on your phone, I find that digital to-do lists are so much better than physical ones as you are able to jot down any thoughts you have almost instantly.

I prefer to write down the things on my note book I want to do when I start a day. I also put a number in front of each item to indicating the priority. Every time when I get one thing done, I immediately scratch it off from the list which makes me feel really good about it. :) Of cause, you can do this in the spreadsheet electronically.

Jesslyn’s Answer

Hi Dyjahnae,

Personally, I prefer writing it down on a journal book and decorate it to motivate me! I would say you could start doing to-do lists every day and you will quickly get used to it. You can start with several tasks that you can finish in the timeframe, and remember not to list out tons of tasks to do in a day, it would make you feel overwhelmed. Lastly, It is a good idea to prioritize things, so you get to do the important things first (such as assignment deadlines).

Sheila’s Answer

Hi Dyjahnae:

Great question! I jot things down on pen & paper, my cell phone or computer. I use bullets or number my list in priority order marking off completed items along the way. Whatever reason I haven't completed the list I circle those items and move them up top to start the next day. I like creating to-do lists because it helps me to stay organized and on track. I like to see what I was working on at that time and the progress made. Hope this helps.

Dexter’s Answer

Hi Dyjahnae,

For me, I just use pen+paper, or an app on my phone to manage my to-do items. I like to just jot things down as they pop into my head and then complete them when I need to. When using an app, it really works for me to set aggressive deadlines, then push the items out to later dates if I can't meet the deadlines. I need to set them aggressively, or the deadlines will be too lax, and I'll procrastinate.

I really like to-do lists because the action of checking off items brings me small bits of joy. I hope you find joy in it as well. :)
