Great career!  Suggest you really observe your current and future teachers to see what makes them successful in your eyes.  Doesn't matter what grade you teach, but being a great teacher usually is more about those who show compassion and motivate their students to want to succeed.

My background was in the corporate world, but after retiring I became a Volunteer Kindergarten teaching assistant and love it.  Working with 5 and 6 year-old kids gives you an opportunity to make an impact on how they view learning.

  With every good wish!

Great profession you are interested in. If you want to teach younger grades you should get a degree in pre school and elementary. When you have the opportunity you can get a feel of what is like to be in a classroom with any of those grades. When in college you will have the opportunity to visit schools and work on different class levels so you see what foods you best. Sometimes you don't really know until you get it cause you might think you wouldn't like a particular grade and find out our feels right. I once had a male intern in my classroom when I taught kindergarten and he said he didn't want kindergarten as study are too young but he needed a job while he was finishing college classes. He loved it eventually and when he got his degree he decided to teach pre-k and stayed with pre-k for about 15 years and probably more but I lost touch with him after that. Just trust your feelings for a certain age group and see how it feels. Good luck to you. If you have any more questions let me know and I'll try to help
