Ercelene D.’s Answer

Nursing salaries are dependent on many different factors such as your education, the area and cost of living where you live/work or the competitive landscape of healthcare in your particular area of nursing. In many instances having an advanced degree will increase your base salary along with specialty certifications.
I currently work in Nephrology specializing in chronic kidney disease, dialysis and transplant education. My salary is commensurate with my years of experience as a nurse , advanced degree and certifications.
I encourage you to never stop learning! Experience plus knowledge will increase your marketability to potential employers. Also, when thinking about compensation remember it includes more than what see in your paycheck. Your total compensation often may include stock, bonuses, paid time off, tuition reimbursement, etc.

Nursing is a very rewarding career choice and can be extremely lucrative providing a very comfortable lifestyle!

There are a number of factors that play into a nurse's salary such as:
- city/state that you work in (cost of living)
- educational background (ex. BSN, MSN, specialty certifications), advancing your education will increase your options and markebility
- facility where you work in (ex. nursing home, clinic, school nurse, hospital)
- unit where you work at (ex. ICU, ED, OR)

I worked in the NICU in 3 different states, and I have seen all these factors come into play when I was negotiating my salary. I advise you to look at the comprehensive compensation package when making a decision. Besides the salary, take into consideration health insurance benefits, retirement options, stock options, raises/bonuses employee wellness benefits, paid time off, and tuition reimbursements.

I currently work for a private company, and I do think that my salary is fair. I also have a very flexible schedule which was important to me when I made my decision. A career in nursing is very rewarding, all the best to you as you prepare for your future.
