David’s Answer

It's really just a matter of how far you want to spread yourself! Plenty of people hold down multiple jobs, though I think it gets tiring and stressful after a while.

Tonya’s Answer

Yes, a person can have more than (1) career or even three.
When I provide career counseling for nurses (and future healthcare professionals) I find nurses with different degrees may not see how their degrees can overlap. For example, a degree in English can overlap with Nursing as nurses publish articles, books, and provide presentations.

In my experience, I have three specialty degrees which have extended into various positions, at different points of my life. For example, as a nurse, midwife, and educator, I have held positions as a college nursing professor, midwife caring for patients in a clinic, and worked as an educator in the hospital setting.

To be specific to your question, you could work in healthcare caring for patients and apart of what you do in caring for patients is to teach them how to make healthy meals (and perhaps you could have a cooking class for the patient/their loved ones). This way you combine your love of cooking and helping others. I only mentioned one example. However, use your imagination and you may come up with a new job/career not thought of at this time.

Yes, there were days I was tried and had to readjust my schedule in working in different positions. However, a tip I would share is to let yourself control your schedule (when you can) and don’t let your schedule control you. Yes, there are activities in a day that have a set time (e.g., a class schedule). However, if you allocate time specific to items you enjoy then the great feeling you receive from helping others, you may find you have more energy because you are doing what you love. Remember, take care of yourself then you can take care of others.

All the best to you.
