What you might want to do is look into research and books that have to deal with learning and practicing. "Make it Stick" By Peter C. Brown, and "The practice of practice" by Jonathan Harnum are two good books based in scientific research that can help you maximize your skills more efficiently.

Bulletproofmusician.com is a great research for this as well. It's run by Noa Kageyama Who is a musician and is very involved with this.

Hope that helps.

Hi!

The definition of a quality musician can mean different things to everyone. I think that if you are satisfied with how you are playing and keep trying to learn new things you are a quality musician.

Here is a real question. How do you feel about your drumming? How do you feel about yourself as a musician. Be extremely honest with yourself. You should be drumming everyday. Make time for your craft.
Drumming since you were 5 is vague. Drumming since 5 and drumming, and practicing everyday since 5 is different. But if it is really what you want to do. Be passionate, research and give it your all.

You've been playing since you were 5 - do you think you've improved? Some people have a knack for music just as some have a knack for certain sports, etc. If you've worked hard at drumming but haven't really gotten much better, it could be that you need a good teacher or that drumming may not be for you. A "quality musician" is hard to define as music evolves and changes as pioneers come along.

Stephan’s Answer

To be a quality musician is different to being a quality instrumentalist. You can listen to and copy the greats, you can practice all of the technique and styles you want, you can work on getting super fast and precise, but none of that really means that much if you cannot play with other musicians and make them sound good. The best way to do this is to play with as many other musicians as possible, sit in on jams, record yourself, show up on time, and open your ears. Listen to as many bands, styles, and musicians as possible, even if they do not play your instrument or your preferred musical style.
