I certainly agree with the others regarding sales and you mentioned HR. I will expand a little more on HR. Human Resources personnel help guide us in the recruitment process in particular. A person that understands and can relate to the business challenges makes for a great partner when recruiting for potential new employees. The interviews in particular are usually behavioral based and a good HR person can identify good traits and also point out red flags by using psychology.

Gary’s Answer

Hi,
That is a fantastic question...I agree with Tony above 100%, sales is a great field for Psych and Bus. When I was in college, I earned a lot of credits through my military experience and a lot of them were in Business, then I studied mostly Psych in my courses.
I would add the customer service, marketing, project management, sales support and operations management can be good choices as well. I believe that Psychology can help us in our personal and professional lives no matter what we do for a living.
Good luck!

Scott D.’s Answer

I would suggest taking an introductory course in industrial/organizational psychology. You will get a lot of ideas of how psychology is used by businesses and you will get a better idea if this field is for you. Most schools with a psychology program will have one of these classes. If not, search around the internet for this topic and you will find a lot of information about this field.

Tony’s Answer

There are many opportunities that can fall within these 2 specialties. One that comes to mind is sales. There is a psychology in understanding the mindset of a prospective customer. There is also the sales cycle itself that requires some analysis. What points move a prospect to along the sales cycle and what influences their decision-making process?

John’s Answer

hi

I agree with Tony and Gary re sales opportunities. A combo of psych and business provides a really interesting understanding of two very important aspects of sales positions: people and business objectives. Understanding the people--their motivations, personalities, behaviors, etc...is a really useful skill in selling and serving a customers needs. The business background will give you an understanding of an organizations business objectives, strategy and growth goals. You will also glean necessary negotiation skills and marketing techniques to help you move sales targets through the sales funnel/selling cycle.

I would also suggest you look at roles in corporate training, human resources, and marketing, all good options for considering a double major in Psych and Business.

Good luck, John
