I have heard good things about the courses given by Full Sail University, which is a physical and online univeristy. They do offer a Video Gaming curriculum. This is not an endorsement or direction though--you should do your own research by checking out colleges in your state or region who may offer this.

The answer you received above is probably the best one: "The answer is - it does not really make a difference where you go to school. Many people in game design get their start at a community college."

UC Irvine is a great school with connections to many of the companies in that industry in SoCal.
