Prashanth’s Answer

To get into medical technology you would need to pick a STEM course in high school, an undergraduate degree in Computer Engineering AKA Electronics and communication engineering in India, and do an MS in Biomedical Engineering. The skills acquired in the MS are translatable to other areas of technology, so you wouldn't find it hard to get a job and that's for sure. Some companies hiring in this space are Phillips, Toshiba, Siemens and many more. Worst case scenario, you can always pivot to software, cloud, data science post the MS and you'd still make a lot of money. Do note these courses are heavy on Math, Physics, Computer Science. Hope this clarifies your question. All the best..!! Rock it.

Prashanth recommends the following next steps:

Prepare for SATs in high school to get into state schools for engineering
Apply for BS computer engineering in the top state schools near your house.
During your BS, work on projects related to Biomedical and publish them in IEEE during your second and third year of UNI
Johns Hopkins University has the best MS program in the US for MS in Biomed. Other options for the MS are Harvard, CMU, NYU, UWisconsin Madison, cornell. Any competitive state school would do fine for your undergrad in computer engineering. Good places for your undergrad in computer engineering would be - NCSU, UMich - Ann Arbor, NEU, University of New York system schools like the one in Buffalo
While there are BS in Biomedical Engineering, don't specialize in bachelor's. A bachelor's degree needs to be broad and not very specific. For all you know, you might want to pivot at the end of 4 years.

Thomas’s Answer

Yes, medical technology is constantly evolving and improving. In the near future, we can expect to see new technologies that can help doctors diagnose and treat diseases more accurately and efficiently. For example, nanotechnology is already being used in cancer treatment, and it may soon be used to detect other diseases as well.

We can also expect to see new medical devices and treatments that are based on cutting-edge technologies such as stem cells and gene editing. These treatments have the potential to revolutionize medicine by helping us fight diseases that were once considered incurable. So yes, there is definitely a future in medical technology - it's constantly evolving and getting better all the time!

I've also been involved personally in medical tech companies, and the rate of improvement is amazing.

Bob’s Answer

The medical technology field is growing at a rapid pace and provides opportunities for robotic surgery as well as remote monitoring and telehealth. An associated field is the the cyber security component to technology used in the medical field. Ensuring that information is secure and that the technology can't be tampered with is a growing career field as well. My suggestion would be to start with looking at technical colleges that provide curriculum in the emerging field of medical technology. At the very least pursuing a degree in the computer science or software engineering field will give you the foundation you need to get an internship or an entry level position at a medical technology company. Getting in the door is the first step, then you can fine tune your career direction based on your passion.

Bob recommends the following next steps:

Research colleges
Research job requirements for professionals in the medical technology field

There are great advances in medical technology, not just robots. Gene sequencing machines, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Scanners etc. and all will have two basic things in common. The hardware and the software. Look at the information on how things work on Youtube and the internet. See if your interests are in the programming or the mechanics - or even both! Look for courses in Mechanical Engineering or Software Engineering.

Bailey’s Answer

I think a great place to reach out would be with the companies that make products for the operating room. For instance “Medtronic” is a company that will make new products all the time. I have worked with them a few times in the OR and in Cath. You can try to send them an email and see what (if any) type of schooling is needed and how you could get started. I know some nurses have become reps for different companies and really enjoy their job.

Bailey recommends the following next steps:

Research companies you are interested in
Send emails and ask about jobs
Read required qualifications listed on current job postings
