First you would need to find out what's needed in your State to become licensed esthetician, for example in Louisiana it's required to complete 750 hours of training and pass written and practical exams before you can get your license.

Once you figure that out I would first work at someone else's salon and get the experience needed etc. Good Luck!

Brandon’s Answer

Whenever a person starts a business they should ask themselves, "What barriers will I come across when I provide/sell this service/item?" There are so many things to account for in general business, and especially when you're specializing in a specific industry. My first piece of advice would be to make up a mock business plan on being an esthetician. Get familiar with the industry. You'll only question what you're exposed to. For example: What will your start up costs be? Mission statement? SWOT analysis on the industry. Pricing analysis in the area you live in etc..

The second piece of advice I offer comes from a quote from Gordon Ramsey the famous Chef, "If you want to become a great chef, you have to work with great chefs. And that's exactly what I did." I know you're not becoming a chef, but I'm sure you want to be great esthetician. So if I were you use social media to reach out to local estheticians and pick their brain. Ask local estheticians if you can help out in their salon. Search videos looking into the day in the life of an esthetician, the pros and cons, etc. Investigate how they started in the industry. It can be scary, but embrace the journey. Gordon Ramsey was cleaning kitchen counter tops and mopping at age 20 to work with a famous chef to learn as much as he can. So expose yourself to as much experience as you can. Always be open to learning. Hope this helps! I believe in you!
