Hi Kooper, I am not a diplomat but one of my best friends is for a tiny country San Marino which is said to be the world's oldest surviving republic. He's someone very knowledgeable about international politics, speaks 3 languages, is mindful of cultural diversity and above all he's very curious about people and life in other places. The following website could be a good starting point for your research:
https://diplomacy.state.gov/how-do-you-become-a-diplomat/#:~:text=Diplomats%20need%20strong%20analytical%2C%20organizational,often%20several%2C%20during%20their%20careers.

This paragraph particularly resonates with me:
Diplomats need strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills. They must have good judgment and high integrity. In addition, they must be able to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally. They must be able to learn at least one foreign language, often several, during their careers.

Good luck!

Hi Kooper, developing your conflict resolution and problem solving skills is always good when thinking about the complex situations and personalities in international politics. Studying everything related to foreign affairs from economics to language to conflict is a good way to develop the foundational knowledge and then applying for internships and studying abroad for a semester to build your resume are good moves. Get on the radar of your local and state government offices and officials for letters of recommendation and for backing once you're ready to apply. In the end, find out what your specialty will be since that will help focus your classes and experiences, and also help with placement.
