I want to become a police officer so I can help people in need and solve crime. How can i become a great police officer . What are the main duties of an officer. What is the best route to become a police officer?

Greetings, the main duties of a law enforcement officer includes, but are not limited to defending the law. They are responsible for the protection of the inhabitants and make every effort to achieve condor by entering life-threatening situations. It is not easy to be a police officer as it entails a lot of hardships. But all of it is meaningful because you are doing everything for the benefit of all.


In the State of New Orleans the basic requirements to apply to become a police officer are:

be at least 20 years old.
be licensed to drive with a good driving record and driving experience.
be in good physical and psychological condition to perform the essential functions of the job of Police Officer.
possess a state approved G.E.D./high school diploma.
Applicants must not have any disqualifiers, for example felonies, certain misdemeanors, or recent illegal drug use.

-There is a process to becoming a police officer and it inlcudes:

Multiple choice exam and writing exercise
Physical Agility Test including push ups, sit-ups, and running
Panel Interview
Background Investigation including a CVSA test (a type of lie detector test)
Substance Abuse Screening
Medical exam
Psychological/Psychiatric Evaluation


-Prescheduled Police Recruit multiple choice exams will be held on the dates listed below. Out of area candidates must apply with Civil Service and submit copies of the required documents to be scheduled for testing.
