What's an authentic major for a forensic anthropologist to take?

I don't know much about being a anthropologist, but bones fascinate me because they evolve from small to big and that's cool. #Bones #anthropology #forensic

Dear Jada,
Great question.
I'm a cultural anthropologist, but like you I started out with a love for studying bones.
If you want to get into Forensic Anthropology, I'd suggest that you definitely read up on it to understand what it takes to prepare.
Here are a few sites to start with:
http://www.americananthro.org/AdvanceYourCareer/Content.aspx?ItemNumber=1783
https://www.criminaljusticedegreeschools.com/criminal-justice-careers/forensic-anthropologist/
I wasn't sure about whether I'd have a career in Anthropology or not, but I was interested in it and did a double major in Biology and Anthropology in college. I focused on physical anthropology and archaeology during undergrad. I really enjoyed both. However, I changed gears for my Master's and studied Cultural Anthropology.
My point here is the following:
Definitely do your research. Determine what you'd like to learn about. Maybe find a mentor to shadow to see if you really like the profession.
Anthropology has four main specialties: Cultural, Linguistics, Physical (what you'd need for forensic path), or Archeology)
There are many ways to become a forensic anthropologist. You can get an MA or PhD in Anthropology or go the med school route (but I would still have an undergraduate concentration or major in Anthropology along with all the pre-med coursework.

I hope this information helps you in your path.

Best wishes to you.
