What values do companies look for in a person when hiring in Construction/Carpentry?

I never had experience in the field yet but I am taking the class for this field. But I may want to know if there has to be some sort of experience.

First things I look for when hiring someone is is the person willing to learn, is open minded, asks questions, a hard worker. If they hit 3 of the 4 I'll try them out & see if they can hit 4 of 4. If so welcome. If not By By. Good Luck.

Depends on what type of construction; Small Contractor/Home Builder or Commercial/Industrial/General Contractor or Specialties like asphalt, concrete, steel, electrical, underground work piping, etc.

I recommend the face-to-face job search where you go to the job site, site office, main office, etc. Knock on doors and shake hands with a firm handshake. You will need to be in a work shirt that is either long or short sleeves, long pants not torn nor baggy, work shoes/boots (here I recommend steel-toed, steel shank work shoes). Be professional with any long hair tied in a pony-tail or controlled or hair cut short. Again shake hands with a firm handshake as soon as you introduce yourself and be prepared to go to work immediately. Attitude and appearance goes a long way.

Your resume should show right off if you have some or no experience and looking for the first. Are you a raduate of High School or GED or Trade School. Willing to work at anything and everything to gain experience. Any OSHA 30 construction certifications or any safety training make sure this is listed and when you got it. Your resume should be very direct in that "You have experience using the following tools or equipment, performing the following jobs or work task such as pouring concrete, running electrical wiring, installing receptacles, light switches and the list goes on. What industrial equipment do you have experience operating and where did you use it. Again If you have no experience then fall back to "You are the best worker they will ever see and be prepared to show it." Be ready to start that day, immediately.

Good Luck
