How hard is it to get one of your own projects up and running in the Film industry ?

I'm considering going into Film/screenwriting in College in 2018-9, and I was wondering how hard it is to produce your own feature film from the ground up, as an independent production. #film #independent-films #screenwriting

Hi Thomas,
Regarding the producing your project, why don't you ask friends and family members to assist you? Especially, if it's a short film. Take a look at what's being shown on the streaming, like Netflix and Amazon. You might consider filming a TV show? Cindy Holland at Netflix always looks for more, and might consider helping you as the executive producer by funding your show. Also, take a look at the websites such as Twitter, Studio 32 and LinkedIn for pro insight about the marketing of your chosen genre. You might organize a business initially with an icon and ads on the social network, because the difficulties might feel overwhelming at times. Good luck.

Indie filmmaking is hard, and screenwriting and film production are two different disciplines.

Vancouver Film School's year-long Writing for Film and Television's program includes two terms of short film production, which IS enough to get you experience producing a short film (and learning what it really takes to produce one; produce 21 five-minute films, and voila, that's almost like producing one feature).

If you want more intense and in-depth hands-on experience with production, you could follow up a year of writing at VFS with a year as a VFS Film Production student -- THAT would not only teach you how to produce everything (including feature-length films), it would also introduce you to new film pros you will be friends with (and make films with) for life.

Hope this helps! Take care,
