Joseph’s Answer

NukeWorker.com is a good place to find currently advertised roles in the industry and read the job descriptions and person requirements. Other general job boards like Indeed and the jobs section of LinkedIn are also worth a look.

Documents published by major nuclear organisations like the Department of Energy, Nuclear Regulatory Commission and national labs such as ORNL, PNNL, LLNL, LANL, INL and others are also available online and might be worth a look. I've seen an older document called "Guide for training nuclear power plant operators" (reference ORNL/TM5304) which could be a good read to give you an idea of what's necessary - although I imagine there's also much more recent resources out there too)

Otherwise, I'd say one of the best things to do is to start from your favourite search engine (eg Google) and search for things like "nuclear reactor operator requirements" and "nuclear reactor operator jobs" and pick anything that looks interesting from the results you get.

I'll also mention that I've answered assuming your interest is in reactor control room operations - I note that there's a lot of other operator and technician roles in the nuclear industry you might also be interested in - consider having a look at some of the other roles like remote handling and manipulator operators, health physics monitors, process chemistry operators - there's a diverse range of roles to be found in the nuclear industry.

Joseph recommends the following next steps:

Have a read of ORNL/TM5304 at https://www.osti.gov/servlets/purl/7228166
