Hi Nijuel - I've been a photographer for 7 years and there are many pros and cons to consider. This is more of a sales role than anything else. This is something people don't often think about when they consider a career in the arts. You are constantly trying to tell your story, sell your service, and convince folks why they should work with you. Now, I come from Advertising / Sales and so this leads a great hand in how to run my photography business / find opportunities to work. This is neither a con nor a pro but it is just something to remember when considering this field. Here is the truth: anyone can learn the technical skills of photography and in a short time I might add. So what separates you from everyone else is YOU. Your ability to sell, work with people, and connect with people all while continuously trying to improve your craft.
MAJOR PRO: if you find success then you get to something you love every. single. day. Which should always be the point with any work you do! Doesn't matter how much money you make. If you are smart you will find a way to survive and if you are wise you will focus more on the thing itself and not on money. Money comes and goes, but finding true happiness with how you spend your time - THAT is the key to real success.
MAJOR PRO: if you find success then you get to something you love every. single. day. Which should always be the point with any work you do! Doesn't matter how much money you make. If you are smart you will find a way to survive and if you are wise you will focus more on the thing itself and not on money.
