Jarrett’s Answer

Properly taking the time to understand what is most important to you. Once you do that, prioritize those items based on the level of importance. Some of those items may be career growth, family, home ownership, etc. Take steps in the direction that works best for you and that in turn will lead to a successful life.

Anna’s Answer

The answer will grow and change as you do. In the beginning of my career I had a specific financial milestone target for age 30 and didn't contemplate much beyond that. I invested heavily in my career and by my mid 20's I was almost at that target and it dawned on my how unmotivated I felt as that milestone approached and the significance of it waned.

At that time I searched out hobbies, I invested in friendships outside of work and I realized that parenthood was my next big milestone. As I grew my family my career slowed however, I was able to set the balance I wanted for that time in my life. This felt right for the version of me at that time. So for this phase of my life success felt like balancing two things and space to prioritize in a way that was right for me and my family.

Now that my kids are older I have found that once again I'm engaged with a greater intensity towards my career again. The opportunity to solve interesting complex problems, working with people I'm learning from, recognition for my contributions and abilities fuel this along with pride for providing a comfort and security for my family.

So I guess the bottom line is my answer is that it grows and changes as you grow and change. I think the most important part is to be intentional and check in with yourself as you progress through life and your career and evolve your definition of success to match what is right for you at that time.

Madisyn’s Answer

In my view, a successful life is one filled with joy and achievements. Attaining success in your career and being capable of supporting yourself and your family is crucial. Equally significant is living a life where you have the freedom to pursue your passions and cherish moments with those you hold dear. Everyone may define success in their own way but, for me, that is what I think is a successful life.
