Denesha’s Answer

I work as a Production Manager for a tech company but previously worked in the television production field. I'd advise looking into internships at different studios. I'd also look into industry networking groups to see if they have any volunteering opportunities. It's a great way to connect with individuals with the same interests as you and learn about the development of their career.

Dan’s Answer

When I finished my graduate work in the field of counseling, I knew that I had very little relevant experience to begin my career in youth/ family counseling. Therefore, I realized that volunteering in social service organizations could be the key for opening up opportunities, to acquire a position in my career field. I first became a board member a group home and later a board member of a local youth services agency. I also accepted active leadership roles while serving on each of these boards. These volunteer experiences not only afforded me some great learning experiences, but also gave me the opportunity to associate with several professionals in my area who later were instrumental in helping me attain my first position with a Youth and Family Counseling Center. Volunteering can be very satisfying as well as a great vehicle for launching your desired career.

Howard’s Answer

I am a chef and teacher for me;
Food banks, shelters, and other groups that help the less fortunate in your community. Food boxes, cooking meals, water stations, schools, and community outreach. It is surprising how many people do not have enough to eat especially children.

Atul’s Answer

I've dedicated four decades to the software industry. The aim of volunteering should serve a two-fold mission: to bring about positive change in society through assistance, and to achieve personal fulfillment.

Here are some thought-provoking options:

1) Offer your services as a tutor, using your expertise to support those who are finding it difficult to cope.

2) Look for internships in areas where there's a demand for your skills. This could greatly benefit nonprofit organizations, underprivileged communities, and the elderly.

3) Make a contribution to platforms like Khan Academy, which have a broad reach and impact.

Remember, your knowledge and skills can make a significant difference in the world. So go ahead, share them generously!
Thank you comment icon I really like Atul's answer here. Use your skills to help support your community! It is a win-win as the organization can take advantage of your free expertise and you can continue to develop your skills building your local eminence and resume! Heidi Kraemer

Alyssa’s Answer

I work in recruiting as a recruiting coordinator. There are a lot of volunteer opportunities that can advance skills that would help with becoming a recruiting coordinator or recruiter in the future. I would recommend volunteering with Veterans at a VA Hospital to get people experience. It's really important to have "soft' people skills, and the more you expose yourself to various types of people from various cultures, backgrounds, interest, etc. the better your people skills will get. People skills and being able to connect with different people is a useful skill no matter what career path you find yourself in.
