Safety has to be your number one priority. You cannot cut corners or bypass protocol. You may be in a hurry or have a customer watching over your shoulder, but you must stay focused and fight the urge to rush. This is when people make mistakes and someone gets hurt. Just be diligent and never compromise safety. And always keep learning

Don't wait until you graduate to find a mentor or an internship or even volunteer opportunity where you can learn from experts - There must be some sort of local organization that perhaps helps build low income housing like habitat for humanity - get involved there and get additional "real life/on the job training" before you finish school..
