Hi, Bryce, and congratulations on having such a well-defined focus. I would suggest doing some internet searches as I did and noting which colleges appear on more than one list. For example, I noticed a couple from this list - https://www.niche.com/colleges/search/best-colleges-with-agricultural-mechanics-and-machinery/s/minnesota/ - appearing on several others.

I found additional articles about the curriculum that might help you, such as https://learn.org/articles/Agricultural_Mechanic_Answers_to_Your_Questions.html#:~:text=The%20curriculum%20includes%20the%20study,electronics%2C%20and%20diesel%20electrical%20systems.

Good luck!

Michelle’s Answer

Hello, Bryce !

There are four colleges in Minnesota that offer Farm Mechanic programs. These schools are : Northland Community and Technical College in Thief River Falls, Ridgewater College in Willmar, South Central College in North Mankato, and the University of Minnesota at Crookston.

As you've said, since there are four schools, you need more options, however, the other options are out of state. I would advise that you consider relocating in order to get your degree in Agricultural Mechanics and Machinery. Some colleges that offer this program are: University of Wisconsin in Madison, Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN, North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC, Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK , Penn State University in University Park, PA, Iowa State University in Ames, IA, University of Missouri in Columbus., MO, California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) in San Luis Obispo, CA, Kansas State University in Manhattan Kansas, University of Idaho in Moscow, ID, University of Nebraska in Lincoln, NE, Mitchell Technical College in Mitchell, South Dakota and there are more.

It is going to take a decision as to whether you want to study locally or relocate. You also will have to consider courses offered and the expense of the different colleges and what your budget may be. Compare them all. This will have to be a personal choice that you make based on your short term goals and preferences. Go to the colleges websites and read what the major entails and compare them in order to make an informed, practical decision. Visit any of the campuses in your local region and get the feel for the school and meet with staff and students to learn more.

Best wishes and I hope that you choose a school that you really love and gain a lot from.
