How do I find a local singer for my band?
I've put together a band recently that is going to be very 80s rock music, the only issue is that we can't find a singer, we have everything else we need. We just can't seem to find that guy or girl if you get what I'm trying to say. Anyway I was just wondering if anyone had any advice as to how I should go about my search to find the frontman or woman.

Hey Bud
I would start calling a bunch of local Karaoke Party people and ask them questions about the local spots they hit. Every spot has a bunch of undiscovered talent who obviously love the spotlight and they have talent too. Develop relationships with these owners as well as DJ's and you can feed each other info on the local clubs wants and needs. They point out great singers, you point out spots that may need DJ's and/or Karaoke.
Build it like a network club and if any member of the band takes off, is a no show or just quits, this network can help you find a quick and non contracted replacement. one hand washes the other.
I have been in entertainment for a minute and ran into all sorts of audition issues along with their accompanying egos. Networking helps a bunch.

I love 80's music as well! When I had a band a few years ago, there were times we needed to find musicians and singers. Some suggestions I have are holding an audition with your band and putting up flyers in music stores and college campuses in your area. You could also post an ad through something like Craigslist. I would also suggest going to open mics in your area to find singers. If you find someone who fits what you are looking for and they are interested, you wouldn't need to hold auditions.

Great question! First, I just want to say congratulations on putting together a band. It's not always easy! I hope it has been fulfilling thus far.
I'm a drummer and I've played with a handful of bands over the course of the past ~15 years. In my experience, the best thing to do is to spend time with and around other musicians. Where you do that is up to you, but I recommend you get creative about where you meet folks! Some musicians hang out at karaoke bars, others hang out at local venues, and others just hang out at coffee shops that play good music.
I think the second best thing to do would be to use Craigslist or a local Facebook Group for musicians. Often, finding a good singer is only one message away!
Last thing: keep at it! It might take a while to find the perfect fit. If it's worth it, keep trying.

I absolutely LOOOVE 80's music so I'm excited that you're starting a band in that space. I've never had to recruit for a band but I've done volunteer recruitment before and have a few suggestions:
- Social Media is your friend! You may think that posting on your IG story won't lead to results, but you never know. Just because someone in your circle of friends isn't a singer doesn't mean that they don't know singers! If you want a wider reach, I'd highly encourage you to find Facebook groups for local musicians and to post on your local subreddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/Rockhill/). The Rock Hill community doesn't look super active, but maybe you live near a larger city and can post there as well.
- Flyers! If you're in high school, post flyers in places you know folks walk by a lot. For example, my school has really long lunch lines in the cafeteria, so posting flyers on nearby poles was helpful because we had a captive audience. Other examples can be vending machines, bathrooms, the counseling office, and the music room. If you're no longer in school or want to explore other options, post in local hot spots like Starbucks or the library. Perhaps even bars that support local bands.
- Talk to any teachers that are involved with music (like band or choir)! They might know someone who is looking for a singing opportunity.
