Hi Keyli,

I don't work in the field... but my father does. This will require at least 20 years of education, assuming you complete both college and med school in 4 years apiece, and 3 - 4 years of residency. During your residency you will be paid, but substantially less than you will be after you are a full-fledged doctor. https://www.verywell.com/medical-residency-training-1736213.

If you are interested in working with babies, you might consider neonatology as a specialty instead. Neonatologists specifically care for newborns. Newborns are different enough from older children that they require significantly different care.

Long story short- yes, you do need a lot of education to become a pediatrician, but it promises to be a very rewarding career.

Best of luck!

Kristin
