Why are people more interested in finding a job that supplies money instead of following their dream?

In today's society people tend to follow the money instead of following their deams; my question is why? If you're not happy in the job you choice then why bother do it?

Maribel’s Answer

Following your dream is definitely important when it comes to finding something that you are passionate about. What you need to remember is not to be too specific on what that dream means because you might miss the opportunity to explore other options. For example: if you dream of being an astronaut only you might miss the opportunity to work for NASA in any capacity as you become a part of exploring the universe and be a part of something bigger than yourself.

Really great question:

Ideally, in a perfect world, we would all earn our income by working on what is personally fulfilling. Sometimes, based on situation or circumstances, we must work simply to work, and be able to live and afford life’s expenses, until we find / work for that opportunity that is truly rewarding for us. That sacrifice is part of our journey and our growth.

Hi Robert,

I think one of the reasons why some people continue to work a job that they don't have a passion for is because of fear. Whether it be fear of the unknown or fear of failure. Some individuals have a family to take care of, and especially if they are the sole-provider for the family, a higher paying job that they don't necessary have a passion for would be more attractive to them than a lower paying job that they might enjoy doing. Some individuals are afraid of failure and the consequences they have to face. What if I choose to follow my dream but I fail miserably at it? What if I don't earn enough to afford my bills? Also, we often heard that the job market is tough, it is not easy to find a job so it is better to prioritize job security instead of exploring field that interest us and lines with our passion. You are definitely going to have more options when you have a good finance position. I think it is always important to figure out what you truly values in life. Be open to the possibilities in your career, and don't rule out any options too soon. Good Luck!

Russell’s Answer

Many individuals' "dreams" are all based on what they can afford financially. They dream about being able to buy happiness rather than persuing their passion. Too often we focus on a quick way to earn a living or make higher pay rather than challenging ourselves to find rewarding jobs and careers. Know what you want, define your path towards happiness!
