How do you chose between two subjects you want to teach?

I want to teach spanish but I would also like to teach government and because they are so different I'm having a hard time choosing which one to teach.

Deciding whether to teach Spanish or Government can be a bit challenging. One way to tackle this is by thinking about what you love and excel at in each subject. Ask yourself which subject really captivates you and where you could make the most difference. Also, ponder on the popularity of each subject in schools and how teaching one or the other fits into your future career plans. Lastly, it might be helpful to get some advice from seasoned teachers or mentors who can share wisdom from their own journeys. In the end, your choice should be a mix of what you're interested in, what you're good at, and your career aspirations.

I was a Social Studies teacher. I can't help you decide but I do know you need the whole Social Studies endorsement to teach Government. High School Principals will only hire teachers who can teach Government, US History and World History. What If they need someone to teach 1 period of History (a required class to graduate)? If you only have a Government endorsement they could not use you.

Hello Cecilia!
Give yourself a pat on the back for having goals!

Research programs offered by colleges. Teaching certificates can have a major in one subject area and a minor in another area.
EX: Bachelor of Science (BS) in Middle School or High School Education with a major in government/history/social studies and a minor in Spanish.
EX: Master's degree in Education (MSE) with a major in government/history/social studies and a minor in Spanish.

ESL / Spanish teachers are in demand especially in diverse cities.
Perhaps you could pursue a teaching position that involves teaching government/social studies to ESL students! :)

Check in with your HS teachers and counselors as well as college admissions office of choice. They should offer support in helping you to decide.

I hope this helps and God Bless you on your journey!
