"I am in the final stage of my CA studies, pursuing my degree from ICAP. I completed my articleship four years ago. Since then, I have gotten married and now have two daughters. I am interested in starting to work from home. However, due to my lack of recent working experience, I seek advice on what steps to take next. A remote job seems like it might be the best thing for you at the moment. Ecommerce is always good to get into, but you have to really know your target market. I would suggest working remotely in the industry that you eventually want to be in, learn as much as you can, and then start your own company.

Hello, Ruqia !

I take it that you are in your final studies at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan to be a Certified Accountant. Congratulations to you on all of your hard work studying for this career !

I think that remote work would be good and would provide flexibility and convenience for you. I also think that once you become certified, you will need work experience in your field for a good resume and an in-office job may not be a bad idea to start out with. People will need to know you and you will have to advertise if you want to build a website for your services. That will also be useful but not if no one knows that you provide the service, so networking and advertising will be crucial. Shop around for the best price for creating a website.

I can't tell you how to secure a job, however maybe some guidance on where to look for work would be helpful. There are many positions to apply for in Pakistan as a virtual remote accountant on the website Linked In. Register there and apply for the positions. You will need a resume and accompany it with a cover letter. There are also jobs on the Indeed website, too. To secure a position, you will need to be certified as well as have work experience in the accounting field whether working over the internet from your own website, remotely or in person. I would suggest trying for some volunteer work which may be hard because companies and non-profits are confidential with their bookkeeping and financial information. You will need some sort of employment background, however, so maybe ICAP can place you somewhere and you'll have to reconcile childcare for a while.

Another option is to seek employment through a Temporary Agency, but I do not know if the Employment Agencies in Pakistan work with temporary assignments. You can read about the agencies to apply to at https://designsvalley.com/recruitment-agencies-in-pakistan/
If you contact them, ask them if they assign temporary assignments. Doing a few short term jobs like that will get your work history started.

You can also order some business cards for yourself and hand them to people you know and that you may meet professionally. Check with your Federal Board of Revenue, the equivalent to the IRS in the U.S., and find out about doing people's income tax forms. Check with some social service organizations and see if they would like a volunteer to help people with their taxes. Also take out advertisements in various media so people will know that you are providing the service. And last but not least, list yourself as an Accountant in as many Directories you can find.

I hope that this is of some help and I wish you all the best !
