How do I effectively balance my classes, extra-curricular activities, and new life as a freshman in college?

I plan on going into college optimistically, as I wish to make the most of my new path in life. However, starting an entirely new life in unfamiliar territory away from home, I wonder if there is a certain mindset or routine I could use to adapt to my new situation. I plan on taking rigorous classes pertaining to mathematics and computer science, while at the same time getting involved with new sports and volunteering opportunities regarding tutoring around campus. If I plan on getting immediately active, is there a way I can effectively balance the activities I want to do with the classes I will have to do without sacrificing sleep and sanity? #extracurriculars #work-life-balance

Remember to try and meet new friends freshmen year. Those friends will most likely stick around with you for the remainder of college and then maybe into your adult life. I would say try to do as many activities you can, but also remember you are adjusting to a whole new environment with a different pace. Take it slow rather than fast and create issues for yourself in the future. You'll have three more years to join clubs and do extracurricular activities.

Try going in with a "heck yes or no" mentality. Think about what is most important to you, and the kind of life you want to have both academically and socially. You're going to have so many amazing opportunities to meet new people and try new things, and everything is going to sort itself out if you give it time. But ultimately, there are only so many hours in the day. Don't beat yourself up if you can't stay committed to something that you've tried out. You can try a club once, and if it's not worth your effort or time, you don't need to feel obligated to go back. Focusing on the things that you're most passionate and excited about, and that help you build that life you envision, will help you naturally some sort out your priorities.
