Communication skills are needed for nearly every job. And they're definitely needed for GETTING a job.

Start building a foundation now by raising your hand in class, offering to be the person from group projects that presents, getting involved in any clubs that allow you to speak. Also, reading is a great way to improve your verbal and written communication skills. A classic book to learn how to communicate better and get people to do what you want them to do is "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie.
