Katie’s Answer

Embarking on your journey in the field of science will involve exciting courses like mouth anatomy, acoustics, psychology, and unique communication disorders, among others. The American Speech and Hearing Association, our accrediting body, has carefully designed this curriculum. It's crucial to ensure that your chosen college's program is accredited by them. You can find a list of these accredited programs on their website, www.asha.org/students.

Don't miss out on the opportunity to explore the variety of college scholarships they offer. If you can't find them, don't hesitate to ask. You'll be surprised to know that there are 19 different scholarship categories you can apply for, with communication disorders and speech-language pathology being just one of them.

Your guidance counselor can be a great resource for any last-minute scholarship applications. And remember, completing your fafsa.gov (not .com!) application on time is key. This journey may seem challenging, but with the right resources and dedication, you're bound to succeed!

Katie recommends the following next steps:

Locate a "free scholarship search engine" to help you find more scholarships.
See if you can do an infornational interview with a speech-language pathologist. Ask specifically what he person does and does not like about the work.
