It's great that you know what you want to do! Try contacting a local vet to see if you can have an informational interview about their career. People often enjoy sharing their experiences and giving advice. Prepare a few specific questions for the meeting, and ask, "What should I know that I haven't thought to ask?" This can uncover valuable insights. If you find their work inspiring, follow up to keep the connection alive. Remember, asking for advice can sometimes lead to unexpected opportunities!

Hi Angela,
I love the idea that you're so passionate about your career goal.
A close friend of mine went on to become a veterinarian, and the one thing she'd ALWAYS say that benefited her was the volunteering she would do. She volunteered at pet hospitals, animal shelters, and even farms.
Having forced exposure to a such a wide range of animals gave her two things:
* the comfort/confidence around the physical aspects of the job
* ideas for what areas to focus on
While her initial goal was to start her own practice for pets etc, she eventually settled into a working for an outfit that visits various farms/sanctuaries and helps animals that are sick etc.
