How Can I Start Research As a First Year In College ?

I am a freshman at UC Santa Cruz and am a proposed Bio Molecular Engineering Major. Usually, it is easier to find available research being a second year and up. My goal is to get my bachelors in three years so of course I want to start research/internships early. I want to get ahead, to start my future early.
